Gardeners guide to using fertilisers:
- All fertiliser labels have three bold numbers. These three numbers represent the primary nutrients (nitrogen(N) – phosphorus(P) – potassium(K)).
- To make sure that the color and growth of your plants are the same, fertilisers must be spread evenly.
- Don’t use too much fertiliser- see guidelines on the back of this pack as stipulated below.
- For vegetables and flowers on heavy loam soil, work 80g per square meter into topsoil. Fertilise after germination with LAN and later in the growing season with Potassium Nitrate.
- For shrubs on heavy loam soil, apply 80g per shrub in September. Follow with LAN applications.
- Excessive fertiliser often harms plants instead of making them grow better.
- When storing your fertiliser at home choose a location that keeps the fertiliser away from weather elements, including extreme temperatures.
How much fertiliser to use:
- The packaging tells you how, when and where to apply the fertiliser to ensure it is appropriate for your needs. The instructions outline necessary precautions for storage and application. Follow all of the information on the package each time you use the fertiliser.
- Ideal application conditions are on days with mild weather when temperatures aren’t high. Apply fertiliser on a day that isn’t windy, as a strong breeze will blow the chemicals to other areas and make application uneven. The fertiliser application should focus on the planting areas themselves
